 This is a huge PSA

There's the right way to connect with people on Instagram and the wrong way.

I posted something over my lunch break, and about thirty minutes later, I got a DM. I glanced at it: "Hey it's been so long!" I didn't recognize the user name or icon, and the account was set to private, so I was a bit skeptical and decided I'd delve into it after work to figure out if it was someone's alt account because they followed me and liked the picture I just posted.

Ten seconds later, I got three more DMs by the same person, including a photo that I did not open (sorry, but I do not open a photo unless I know you or am 100% sure it is not a dick pic). Firing off DMs in rapid succession rings all sorts of alarms. I don't mean to be rude, but this is not a good idea. It is more likely to irritate someone or creep them out.

They sent yet more DMs in rapid succession until finally saying something along the lines of "Fine! Sorry I bothered you...." They unliked the photos they liked and unfollowed me.

This was all in the span of five minutes (if even that).

Not once did they identify themselves.

This is not the proper way to befriend someone or to reconnect.

I say this in the most friendly way possible! Please don't do this. Just don't.

For one, people have lives (again, I do not say this to be mean, but people have college, jobs, and whatnot). They may not be able to respond right then and there. Secondly, please identify yourself (especially if your account is private). Don't send unsolicited photos from your camera because it comes off the wrong way. How does the other person know it is not some gross dick pic? I have to be blunt with that one because that stuff does happen. Lastly, please don't send a bunch of DMs in rapid succession until you've established a friendship.
